Whether we are listening to music, moving to it, or playing a musical instrument, music has almost mystical abilities to affect us positively on many levels. Learning musical instruments can help the student to build up their personal development and improve their mental health. Music can change a person’s mood. It can make people think in a more positive way (such as the physical responses) ( O’Donnel L 1999 ; Mastro J 2009). The conclusions of these studies support the theory that music instruction can help build intellectual and emotional skills. Music can make people calm down , relaxing and intellectually stimulating (Association for Natural Psychology 2011). A good character of students had been prove that can be build by music. ( Aw 2010)

Second advantage is students that learn music score a higher marks during their exams. (Catterall, J , Iwangga 1999) Learning musical instruments actually leads to a better understanding on doing mathematics. ( Aw 2010) As the results from the research, There is a causal link between music and spatial intelligence (the ability to perceive the world accurately and to form mental pictures of things). This kind of intelligence, by which one can visualize various elements that should go together, is critical to the sort of thinking necessary for everything from solving advanced mathematics problems to being able to pack a book-bag with everything that will be needed for the day.( Mastro J 2009 ; Children’s Music Workshop 2006)

Moreover, Student will be better in language development if they attend to music lessons. Based on the research of Association for Natural Psychology ( 2011) ; Miss Aw ( 2010) , it showed that music helps to develop a greater language capacity. musical training helps develop brain areas involved in language and reasoning. Recent studies have clearly indicated that musical training physically develops the part of the left side of the brain known to be involved with processing language, and can actually wire the brain's circuits in specific ways. Linking familiar songs to new information can also help imprint information on young minds.( Children’s Music Workshop 2006 ; Mastro J 2009)

Besides of the preceding benefits, attend music classes also promote other advantages such as develop teamwork and leadership skills. ( Aw 2010) Music study enhances teamwork skills and discipline. The reason is for an orchestra to sound good, all players must work together harmoniously towards a single goal, the performance, and must commit to learning music, attending rehearsals, and practicing. Therefore , based on this practical habit, student will know the important of team work and train their leadership skills. ( Mastro J 2009 ; Children’s Music Workshop 2006)

The making music class as compulsory for secondary school also encourage self esteem, confident and creative thinking of a student. Students of the arts learn to think creatively and to solve problems by imagining various solutions, rejecting outdated rules and assumptions. Questions about the arts do not have only one right answer.( Mastro J 2009) Music provides children with a means of self-expression.
